Car seat cooling pack

How many times have you opened up your car in the dead of summer, reach for the seatbelt and fried your hands?? Uhm… Every day! Here in Arizona our summers are pretty brutal and you need oven mits just to touch the metal buckles in your car.

Imagine how your baby feels sitting in that hot car seat?! It’s only march and my baby doll is only a month old and already I can’t count how many times I’ve picked her up out of her car seat to find her overheated and cranky.

To solve this discomfort I made her a carseat cooling pack. It’s adorable and will be super useful in the next few months. All I have to do it pop the removable cooling packs in the freezer and when I’m ready to leave the house, I take them with me. If I’m gonna be gone a while I’ll throw them in an insulated bag but if I’m just running down the street it’s not necessary.

Then when I get to my destination, I take her out of the car seat, and plop this in ON TOP OF THE BUCKLES. We go about our business and when we get back to the car her seat is nice and chilly.

Of course you cannot have her ride in the car seat with the cooler… It is only for cooling it down when she is not in it.

It’s my first one and I have a few adjustments to make but here are the pics!

Whatcha think? I can’t wait to give it a try!!

Laundry hamper

I have been looking for a hamper for the nursery but haven’t found one I love.

I stopped by Garden Ridge which is this super cool store in Gilbert Mesa… And found this hamper!

It was 50% off making it only $15!

It was great except the lining was this beige color and it didn’t match the nursery!

Do you think that stopped me?? No way!

I used the existing liner to make a new one using left over pink fabric!

Love my sewing machine!!

It’s great because I can make anything now! It may not be perfect but I’m not afraid of trying!!

If you know me at all you know I love to read! I hope to pass this love of literature on to my little one as well!

I decided to create a book nook in her nursery so that she would have books around her from the beginning! (Plus… I didn’t want her books taking up space in the library! 😉 that would take up space that my books need!)

I got spice racks from Ikea and painted them white and hung them in the nursery. They actually hold quite a few books!
Then I had my dad make me a custom wall art! I designed it myself and then he cut it and applied it!

I think it looks amazing!

I think reading is one of the most important things we can teach our children! It can take them to far away places!! It’s magical!

Sensory Blankets

Have you heard of sensory blankets? They are gaining in popularity because they are great for babies to explore the different textures and ribbons.

I made one for Harper and it was pretty easy! I used a soft fabric for one side and minky for the other. Then I chose a few different color and texture of ribbons for the edges. I love how you can put those rings on the ribbons to attach other toys!

What do you think?

Harper seems to like it! I made it smaller than the average blanket because I think of it more as a “comfort object” than a blanket… I wanted it Harper size so she can carry it around when she gets older.

Harper LeeAnn – 1 month update!

Can you believe my little girl is a month old already?!? I can’t! It seems like just yesterday we brought her home. But then, it feels like she has been a part of our lives forever!

She is a very healthy, happy, smiley little girl. She is so well behaved. She has the cutest little expressions.

When we brought her home from the hospital she was so tiny.

We haven’t weighed her since that week but we have a doctors appointment tomorrow morning so I’ll update the blog when we have her newest stats!

UPDATE!! We just got home from the doctors. She weighs 8lbs, 2.5 ounces, is 21in long! She’s in the 50th percentile for height and the 20th for weight which means she’s long and lean! Doc says she’s growing right on track and is even slightly ahead on some milestones (following an object with her eyes and focusing). She got her HepB shot today and cried! She got a snoopy bandaid though!! 😉 Oh and one more update since yesterday… This morning she started crying REAL TEARS!!! Why didn’t anyone warn me how heart breaking that is??

Here she is at her first doctors appointment:

She was clearly thrilled about the experience!!
We celebrated Easter with my family and got the first picture of all three babies! They are going to be such good friends as they grow up!

Harper hates bath time but loves the snuggles in the warm towel after bath time. Here she is after her first bath. I just love how alert she is!

We had professional photos taken by Dixie Landrum photography and she did an amazing job!

I just adore my little munchkin so much!

One of the hardest things about being a new mom is breastfeeding. We are lucky that we are doing well breastfeeding but I am so exhausted because I cannot sleep for longer than 3 hours at a time. The most she goes between feeding is 4 hours at night now, so after I feed her and burp her and change her diaper, I get about 3 hours of shut eye before we repeat the process! It’s better now, for the first 2.5 weeks she was only sleeping 1.5-2 hours at a time which was … Well… Let’s just say, I now know why sleep deprivation is such an effective means of torture!

She is sleeping better now. She started in the cradle but didn’t sleep well in there. I blame it on my terrible swaddling technique!

Then we moved her to the rock n play, and she sleeps much better in there!

She took a nap in her crib today for the first time and did great! Her dad and I only checked on her 8 times in an hour and a half! Pretty good, if I do say so myself!!

She is such a snuggler. She loves to nap on her daddy’s chest.

So precious!! I love her many expressions!!

She loves tummy time and has very strong neck muscles!!

She smiles and imitates you now! And she can follow a toy with her eyes that moves in front of her!

I could go on forever but I won’t!! 😉 I’m so proud of this little bundle of love! She’s such an amazing addition to our lives!
