Dresser is done!!

I finally chose knobs for the dresser and changing table. I’ve been waiting for Hobby Lobby to have them 50% off.

Here are the knobs I chose:

Medium Tan & White Crackle Ceramic Scallop Knob

When they are 50% off they are only $1.99/each.

I love how they still look kind of antique to fit the dresser but they are also new and fresh. I also love how the brown crackle brings in the espresso color of the dresser.

Time for a true before and after!

Rocking Chair staining project!

If you all recall, I purchased a Cracker Barrel rocking chair from a neighbor’s garage sale a few weeks back for $20.

Here is the picture of the chair when I got it.

We sanded it down, stained it and put a few good coats of polyurethane on it.

Here is the finished product! I am still looking for cushions for it.

I love how rich it looks! Plus, it matches my crib pretty darn well! 🙂

33 weeks!

How far along? 33 Weeks, 5 days

Total weight gain/loss: I’m up like 35 pounds 😦 I feel ginormous! I keep gaining weight.

Maternity clothes? Definitely. I can still wear some non-maternity tops if they are stretchy.

Sleep? I wish. I can’t believe how frequently I wake up every night to pee!

Stretch marks? Still none!  Belly button is starting to pop. LOL

Best moment this week: Relaxing with my hubby! My mom and I took a tour of the hospital, which was fun!

Miss Anything? Coffee. Bladder control.

Movement: Yes! You can see my belly move. Leon was able to feel her head at my doctors appointment today. The doctor showed him how to poke and prod my belly to figure out her position.

Food Cravings: Chocolate. salty stuff.

Anything making you queasy or sick: Raw meat still bugs me.

Gender: It’s a Girl!

Pregnancy Symptoms: Swelling, Carpal Tunnel, heartburn… and some others I’d rather not talk about! The carpal tunnel is getting worse every day. My back has started hurting more. My muscles have gotten sore, especially my groin muscles and my leg muscles. I’ve woken up with a Charlie horse (not fun!). I started doing physical therapy for the carpal tunnel. It’s not really working for the long term but it does feel better for a few hours.

Labor Signs: A few Braxton Hicks contractions. Only 2-3 so far, spread out. The last 2 have been painful, like bad cramps. The doc was able to determine that Harper is head down which is great news!

Wedding rings on or off? Off –way too swollen! Even my watch is a little tight now.

Happy or Moody most of the time: I’ve been happy! A little cranky today, but in a fun way. I like to think that I’m not cranky… my filter has just been removed. I’m a bit more…. vocal than I normally am. 🙂

Looking forward to: My shower this weekend!!! I’m SOOOOO excited!!

Hubby @ work!

You may be wondering what L has been up to while I’ve been DIY’ing the nursery.

He has worked long and hard and has finished making and installing sun screens on all the windows in our house!!

I’m SOOOOO happy with how they turned out. First of all, they block 80-90% of the light from the sun. This also means our electric bill stays lower in the summers. The screens screw into the window frames which make them hard for the kitties to push out.

Here is a picture of the screens in the front:

Image

When he finished the screens, he hung the blinds in the nursery and started helping with the furniture. As you all know, I’ve been benched on the heavy working, so my amazing hubby has taken over my duties.

Image

He figured out how to take the entire changing table apart which made the sanding go MUCH quicker.

I finished the last coat of poly on the dresser and Leon brought it inside for me.

I LOVE how it turned out. I still need to pick out the knobs and put them on. But doesn’t it look lovely?!

It matches the crib perfectly. The rocker is almost done as well.

I cannot wait until the changing table is done because then I can start figuring out how to rearrange the room. 🙂

More on this next week! I need to rest!

32 Weeks!

Image

I’m 32 weeks already! Actually because this weekend was so busy, I am a few days late posting this and will officially be 33weeks tomorrow. But I took the picture above on 2/13 (5 days ago) so it counts as week 32! 🙂

This last weekend kicked my butt. Saturday morning we woke up bright and early and worked on the furniture. I went to Michaels to get supplies for the mobile. Then I went to my cousin’s baby shower! It was so much fun!

Sunday, we woke up early again, worked for a little while outside and then we ran some errands. We have been wanting a new mattress for a while now. Mainly because I wanted a King size bed (instead of the Queen that we have). There was nothing wrong with our mattress it was very comfy and still relatively new. It was just so small.

So we went mattress shopping, figuring there would be good deals for President’s Day weekend.

We went to a few different places (let me tell you- getting in and out of bed while 8 months pregnant is NOT an easy feat.) We found a nice one at Mattress Firm but it was a little more than we wanted to pay. Then someone suggested this place called R&S Mattress. We checked it out – its a liquidator so they don’t have a huge selection but their prices seemed reasonable. We found one we liked and purchased it. We went home, took apart the old bed frame, loaded up the old mattress into my dad’s truck, and dad helped Leon bring the King size mattress into our room and set it up. That night we realized the mattress we brought home was NOT the one that we laid on in the store. It was so uncomfortable, I didn’t sleep at ALL. So the next day (Monday) we went back to the store to see if we could exchange it. Unfortunately they didn’t have anything in stock that we liked and couldn’t even order anything. It was a major bummer. We begged and begged and finally after a few tears and a threat to write a review on Yelp, they gave us a refund. We promptly drove to Mattress Firm and  ordered the one we liked there. It is a pillow top (versus the one from R&S which was latex). The one at Mattress Firm is a tad more expensive but SO MUCH  NICER.

The only downside … The new bed wont be delivered until Friday night!!! Soooo… we are without a bed until Friday night. I’m sleeping on the couch and Leon is sleeping in his recliner. It’s not that bad, really. Our couch is pretty comfy. I slept better on the couch than I did on the yucky mattress… but still… I’m pregnant, uncomfortable, tired, and grumpy.

I’m honestly just glad to have the whole thing behind us. I would NOT recommend R&S Mattress. Their return policy sucks.

ANY who… It was an exhausting weekend.

I can’t believe how fast time flies.

How far along? 32 weeks, 6 days.(32 weeks 1 day in the picture above)

Total weight gain/loss: I gained a bunch of weight since my last appointment. I gained another 6 pounds in the last 2 weeks so that’s  a total of about 27 pounds. My doctor thinks it’s water weight because I’m UBER swollen.

Maternity clothes? Definitely. I can still wear some non-maternity tops if they are stretchy.

Sleep? I wish. Sleep is harder and harder to come by. I can’t believe how frequently I wake up every night to pee!

Stretch marks? Still none!  Belly button is still shallow!

Best moment this week: Definitely getting the crib!! Also – finishing the dresser.

Miss Anything? Coffee. Bladder control.

Movement: Yes! You can see my belly move. She is developing definite sleep and awake patterns.

Food Cravings: Chocolate peanut butter ice cream, chocolate, salty and sweet foods.

Anything making you queasy or sick: Raw hamburger or chicken & any pungent or strong smell really bugs me.

Gender: It’s a Girl!

Pregnancy Symptoms: Swelling, Carpal Tunnel, heartburn… and some others I’d rather not talk about! The carpal tunnel is getting worse every day. My back has started hurting more.

Labor Signs: Nada

Wedding rings on or off? Off –way too swollen!

Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy!  I’ve been really good this whole pregnancy but had some major mood swings today- Grumpy and weepy.  Man those pregnancy hormones are killer.

Looking forward to: My shower in a few weeks and meeting my little munchkin.

The crib!

I’m SOOOO thrilled to say we have picked out a crib! My parents have generously purchased our crib and mattress for us! How sweet is that?! I have to take a moment to say a BIG THANK YOU to my mom and dad! They have helped us out so much and we are so lucky to have their love and support!

Are you ready to see the crib!?

Image

Oh my gosh it is PERFECT! 😀 I’m so happy.

We found it at Burlington Coat Factory (Baby Depot) and it was the LAST one they had! Woohoo!!

My mom and I put it together and as SOON as it was put together I ran and grabbed all the stuff I made to see how it looks and if it fit.

First, the crib sheet fit PERFECT.

Image

YAY!

Here it is, all put together.

Even the cats approve!

🙂 I’m SO happy. I LOVE LOVE LOVE it.

We’re also making progress on the other furniture. Leon started sanding the changing table yesterday. It is a beast. I’ve been officially sidelined thanks to the carpal tunnel. However Leon is pushing along! We didn’t really realize until he started to work that it was PAINTED red. And by the looks of it, that’s how it originally came. The women I bought it from said the changing table was probably 40 years old. And the red paint is CAKED on there.

Here it is in all its red painted glory:

Image

Image

I love the bones of it, but the red is just… not doing it for me.

Here is Leon hard at work.

Image

Image

It’s a long process because much of it has to be done by hand. I started helping him a little today. I didn’t last long though. He is COVERED in pink/red dust.

Both of us are eager to put this part of the project behind us.

I’m still plugging along on the dresser and rocking chair. I’ve put 2 coats of the poly on the dresser and have done one coat on part of the rocker. The rocker is time consuming because I have to turn it upside down, do part, let it cure, flip it, repeat. The dresser is really looking nice. I’m hoping to have a final pic next weekend for you!

It’s time for us to relax. I’m going to do a few loads of laundry (baby clothes!) and then take a long warm bath!

Loads of love and red dust,

Sarah and Harper

Anything making you queasy or sick: Raw hamburger or chicken & any pungent or strong smell really bugs me.
