DIY Hooter Hiders

I plan on nursing Mordred (If I’m able) so I wanted to get a nursing cover so I can do so in public without baring it all.

Yeah… I know there are some women out there who breast feed in public without a cover-up. And I get it they show more skin on MTV than a breast feeding mother does. But I’m not one of those women.

You can buy a hooter hider on like this one for about $30 depending on the fabric and such.

But… you all know me… I’m not going to spend$30 (plus shipping!) on something I can make myself!

:: evil crafting laugh ::

I brought out my sewing machine and I got to work.

My cousin and my other cousin’s wife are both pregnant right now as well so I made them both one as well.

I found an easy tutorial online at Prudent Baby. I looked around for different tutorials and hers was by far the best and easiest to follow.

They were super easy and fast and they turned out great.

The middle one is the fabric I used for mine. ๐Ÿ™‚

Whatcha think?!

I love them and want to make at least one more for myself.

Maybe I will start selling them on etsy…. ๐Ÿ™‚

Bountiful Baskets!!

In my last post I mentioned that I was up super early on a Saturday. It was WELL worth it though… let me tell you why.

My dear friend Maliaย introduced me to Bountiful Baskets.

Bountiful Baskets is a food co-op. You can go online and pay $15 to participate. There are no contracts, no obligation to participate for any duration. You sign up each week you want to participate. You pay $15 (or $25 for organic if you so desire) and you show up at a designated location early Saturday morning to pick up your stash.

You get approximately 50% fruits and 50% vegetables. They ask that you volunteer every so often since everything is volunteer ran. If you can, you show up an hour early and prepare the baskets.

I went online Monday and paid for my basket. My total was $20 since it was my first time (they have a one time- first timers fee to purchase supplies plus a processing fee).

This morning I woke up and left the house at 6:45am. Needless to say Leon is still sleeping. ๐Ÿ˜‰

The location I chose is about 2.5 miles away. There are 4 locations in Gilbert and a few in Chandler. (Sorry California peeps – since you all have crazy laws on produce you miss out! Illinois family- not sure if they have this out there… but if they don’t you can always sign up to run a site!)

I arrived at the site about 10 minutes before 7am. The pickup time is 7am – you must arrive by 7:20am or your food is donated to a local fire station. I showed them my confirmation on my phone, and they showed me my baskets. I had one for fruits and one for veggies. I loaded everything into my big laundry basket. They asked that I take a few things of cardboard to throw in my recycle bin. I gladly obliged.

This is what my laundry basket looked like:

I am so impressed with the quantity and quality of what I received.

Here is (best I can tell) what I received:

8 Bananas

3lb bag of small apples

3 grapefruits (some hybrid kind?)

3 bunches of green onions (chives)

2 bags of red grapes

1 head of cauliflower

2 bunches of broccoli

3 rainbow carrots

1 bushel of celery

7 chilies

1 head romaine lettuce

Here is another shot:

No way can I eat all of this so I’m sharing with my mom.

I’m VERY pleased with my experience. I would never buy some of these things at the store (chilis… rainbow carrots..) but I get to try new things and find exciting recipes that will feature some or most of these items.

I’m thinking of making enchiladas with some kind of chili sauce.

Steam the broccoli, carrots and cauliflower,

make a salad..

and I’ll eat the celery as is with a little peanut butter. YUM.

I highly suggest you give itย a try at least once. It’s exciting to see what you’re going to get. ๐Ÿ™‚

Let me know if you have any questions… I’ll do my best to answer them.

23 Weeks!

Hi all! I am now 23 weeks along and I’m feeling Mordred kick and roll and punch and do jumping jacks all day long now.

She loves to move around at night after I’ve had a long day.

Leon felt her move a few weeks ago but he described it as a “wave” so he didn’t get the “kick” experience. Well last night, she was in the middle of her nightly calisthenics, and Leon finally felt a true kick! It was so excited for us both. It was really his first experience interacting with her so it was awesome for him. And I’m so happy he got to experience a little of what I am so lucky to get every single day. I LOVE feeling her move in there. It’s like she knows when I need to smile or laugh. ๐Ÿ˜€

Hereย is a picture of me at 22 weeks (last weekend). I haven’t taken one this week yet because I’ve been lazy. I will tonight though! ๐Ÿ˜€

Last weekend mom and I baked cookies. Every year before Christmas we get together (usually at my house) and make a ton of cookies. We always overdo it and make way too many. In fact this year Leon warned us… “Don’t go too crazy this year…” Well… let’s just say we don’t really know where to stop.

We made:

Snickerdoodles (doubled the recipe – Hey! They are my FAVORITE!)

Peanut Butter cookies with kisses on top (doubled the recipe … These are mom’s favorite!)

Sugar Cookies

Yeah… we had cookies coming out our ears. But we had a blast as always. We listen to Christmas music, sing, dance and laugh. I can’t wait to include my daughter in our traditions. ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m still on a sugar high so I’ll make a few more posts this morning. You may be wondering what I’m doing us this flippin’ early on a Saturday… well… stay tuned and you will find out! ๐Ÿ™‚

Lots of love and gratitude,

Sarah and Mordred

I love the holidays!

I cannot believe how fast my pregnancy is flying by.

I’m 21 weeks now.

Here is a photo of me at 20 weeks:

And here I am at 21 weeks. This was Thanksgiving Day!

As per tradition, on Black Friday,

my mom, Aunt Chris, Amy, Jenny, Jane, Aunt Lisa, Cheryl, Jen, Molly and Sharon, ย

all go out to eat and go shopping.

This year Molly and Sharon couldn’t make it. We definitely missed them.

We did have a blast and I stayed up until past midnight, which is WAY later than normal!

We went to Brio, as always, and walked around the mall.

Bath and Body Works had a killer deal, so did Crazy 8 – which is this adorable little kid store.

Yeah.. my first year looking at baby clothes. ๐Ÿ™‚ There are SO many cute clothes for girls!!!!!!

Old Navy had everything 50% off so I got a few sweaters for myself. ๐Ÿ˜‰

At bath and body works, this very nice woman working there commented on my belly.

She said, “Oh you’re just glowing! When are you due? December?”

I smiled and corrected her. She felt badly but I thought it was hilarious.

December?! I guess I AM getting a little bigger.

Today I put up our Christmas tree and decorations and convinced Leon to put up our outside lights.

Aren’t they gorgeous!? You can even see a sneak peak of our tree.

Putting up our tree is always an adventure since we have cats. ๐Ÿ™‚

I moved around the furniture in the front room to make room for the tree in front of the window.

I put ONE branch up… and Chewie was already interested.

She climbs up higher and higher as I put more branches up.

And higher…

I finally got the lights up and the ornaments on. Last year, Chewie climbed the tree too and I was too nervous to put up ornaments.

Since the tree stayed standing last year, I’m going to trust her this year.

I also wrapped a few gifts as you can see. ๐Ÿ™‚ I had a productive day!

Here are a few other shots of areas around our house. I LOVE having lights up in the house because they create this

glow that feels very warm and cozy to me. It really makes me very happy.

Yes… that is Star Trek on the TV. My husband is a nerd. What can I say?!

With the lights low it’s soooo pretty in here. โค

Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah, or Happy Festivus to you!

Whatever you celebrate, take the time to slow down and live in the moment. The holidays can become so hectic,

but keep in mind… these are moments and memories you are making.

Cherish the time with your loved ones.

With lots of love and holiday cheer,

Sarah and Mordred

Oh! I haven’t told you yet, have I!? Well… when I was growing inside my mom, before they choose a name for me,

they called me “Otis Dexter”.

Well… since we found out we were expecting, Leon and I have been calling our sweet baby “Mordred” from the Stephen King Dark Tower series. Mordred is the evil spider demon baby that Susannah gives birth to.

๐Ÿ˜€ We are both very big Stephen King fans. In fact, if you attended our wedding, we used a line from the Dark Tower as our “blessing”.

“May your days be long and your nights pleasant.”
